A Sunday remembrance for pets who have died
Updated November 7, 2026
Every Sunday evening, Porchlight reads out the names of pets who have died, one at a time, in a small room on the hill called the Quiet Hall. It's free. You can put your pet's name on the list, or just come in and sit for a while.
When it happens
There are two each Sunday, with the same names: one at 8 pm London time and one at 8 pm New York time. Porchlight shows both in your own time zone, so you don't have to work out the difference. On the hill, a banner appears three hours before each one.
The service opens with a minute of music. Then each name is shown for about seven seconds, with their photo if the lantern has one, and a candle is lit beside it. After the last name there is a minute of quiet for all of them, and a short closing. A short list takes a few minutes. A full list of 100 names takes about 14.
If you come in after it has started, you join at the point it has reached, the same as everyone else in the room.
How to add your pet's name
- Open Porchlight and go to your pet's lantern. If you haven't hung one yet, it's free and takes a minute.
- On the lantern's card, turn on Remember [name] at this Sunday's service.
- Their name is read at both services that Sunday.
You can only do this for a lantern you hung, from the browser you used to hang it or from your private manage link. The list closes five minutes before the London service. A name added after that goes on the following Sunday's list. Each Sunday is separate, so turn it on again for any week you want their name read.
If you can't be there
When a service ends, the Quiet Hall keeps it so you can watch it again, until the next one starts. The hall is open all week, too, if you'd like somewhere to sit.
Telling other people
Once your pet is on the list, the lantern's card gives you a link to share. It opens a small page that says when their name will be read, in the time zone of whoever opens it, with a button into the hall. There's also an Add to calendar button, which picks whichever of the two services is closest to your own clock.
Candles during the service
Each name card has a button to light a candle for that pet. It opens their lantern, where anyone with three hearts can light one for free (you fill the hearts by visiting on three days in a row). The person who hung the lantern can also light one for $2.99. Leaving a flower is always free.
Nothing in the service is religious. It's music, the names and a minute of quiet, and anyone is welcome whatever they believe.
