Terms of service
Last updated November 5, 2026
These terms cover your use of Porchlight at porchlightforpets.com. Porchlight is run by HAN JAE HWAN, a sole proprietor doing business as Ace Trade, registered in the Republic of Korea ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms.
What Porchlight is
Porchlight is an online place to remember pets who have died. You can hang a lantern with your pet's name, photo and letter, visit other lanterns, and buy optional items such as candles, a Forever Place and a Named Star.
Purchases
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Polar Software Inc. Polar Software Inc is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Polar provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Polar's buyer terms also apply to your purchase.
Everything we sell is a digital item inside Porchlight. Items have no cash value and can't be transferred or exchanged for money. Prices are shown on the pricing page and include tax. Refunds follow our refund policy.
Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, names and letters you add. You give us permission to store them and show them on Porchlight, which is needed to run the service. Only add photos you took or have the right to share.
Please don't post anything hateful, sexual, violent, or about a real person who hasn't agreed to it. Don't use a lantern to advertise. Visitors can report a lantern, and a lantern reported by several people is hidden until we review it. We may remove content that breaks these rules.
How long things last
A Forever Place and a Named Star last for as long as Porchlight runs. We intend to keep it running for a long time. If we ever have to close, we'll give at least 90 days' notice by email and on the site, and we'll let you download your photos and letters before we do.
Named stars
A Named Star is a star in Porchlight's own sky. It is not registered with any astronomical body, and it doesn't name a real star.
Other visitors
Lanterns are shared: everyone who visits a hill sees the lanterns hung there. During the beta, some of the people walking on the hills are simulated so the hills don't feel empty, and lanterns marked "Example" are samples. Simulated visitors may stop by your lantern, but they never add candles or flowers to it.
Managing your lantern
Your browser keeps a private key that lets you manage your lantern. You can copy a link with that key from your lantern to use it on another device. Anyone with the link can manage the lantern, so keep it private. If you lose it, email us and we'll help you get it back.
Our responsibility
We work to keep Porchlight running and your content safe, but the service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll post the new version here and update the date above.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without taking away the protection given by the consumer laws of the country where you live.
